Construction resumes at 67 Street and Johnstone Drive

May 19, 2017 | 6:35 AM

RED DEER- Construction of the 67 Street and Johnstone Drive roundabout and surrounding roadways will resume next week.

As a result, there will be traffic impacts in the area.

Starting Tuesday, May 23, traffic on 67 Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 65 Avenue to west of the roundabout.

Throughout construction, the roundabout will remain open with traffic restricted to one lane.

Access to Golden West Avenue northbound and southbound will be limited and traffic detours will be in place.

Work on the 67 Street/Johnstone Drive Corridor Improvement project began last year, with construction of the two-lane roundabout at 67 Street and Johnstone Drive/Orr Drive and a single lane roundabout at 66 Street and Orr Drive.

The bulk of the work was completed last year with the following work remaining to be completed this year: road reconstruction on 67 Street between Golden West Avenue and the roundabout; paving 67 Street, Orr Drive, Johnstone Drive and parts of 66 Street; permanent pavement markings in the roundabout; street lighting; and asphalt trails.

Construction is expected to last until the end of August.

All businesses will remain open during construction and signs will be in place to direct customers to businesses.

Bus routes will be maintained throughout construction.
