Not Suspicious

No one hurt in Red Deer County camper fire

Jul 27, 2022 | 3:43 PM

Fortunately no one was hurt following a camper fire in Red Deer County over the weekend.

County fire inspector Scott Tuton says crews were called to the scene on England Way just north of Gasoline Alley shortly before 4:00 p.m. on July 24, 2022.

“We had a fully involved RV camper with propane bottles venting, so we stood back a bit to do offensive operations,” he explains. “Once we had water supply and personnel, we basically extinguished the fire as we would.”

Tuton says roughly 10 firefighters from both the County and City of Red Deer battled the blaze, and put the fire out on the tow-behind camper in under an hour.

“I did an investigation and it’s really hard to determine cause. We know it’s not suspicious, but the cause of the fire is undetermined,” says Tuton. “There’s literally nothing left to the camper, only the frame. There was a propane bottle at the back and a propane bottle at the front venting, so that’s feeding the fire, so there’s no way to tell exactly where it started.”

Tuton notes no damage done to any surrounding properties during the fire, adding the call came in from a nearby resident, with no one inside the camper at the time.

“It was a very simple, basic fire for us,” concludes Tuton.
