Hollie Vincent – Queens Curling
Hometown – Red Deer County, Alberta
Bachelor of Science Nursing (3rd year)

Hollie Vincent had a tremendous weekend on the ice for the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Curling Championships. The third-year helped guide the Queens to a silver medal in Camrose. The RDP Queens ranked (4-0) first in the women’s standings, going undefeated over four draws and earning a trip to the finals. In the gold medal game, Vincent and the Queens put forth a solid effort, but the host University of Alberta Augustana Vikings Women’s team captured a 7-4 decision with an accurate final shot. The Bachelor of Science Nursing student received the prestigious honour of being named the ACAC Female Curler of the Year. Vincent was also recognized as the ACAC Women’s Curling All-Conference skip for her outstanding play.

Daniel Humbke – Kings Curling
Hometown – Lacombe, Alberta
Bachelor of Kinesiology (1st year)

Daniel Humbke brought his best when it mattered the most at the ACAC Curling Championships. The first-year played an integral role in helping the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings earn gold. The RDP Kings (2-2) placed second in the standings after four draws, earning a berth in the finals. The team elevated its play in the gold medal game. Even though the Kings previously dropped a 4-3 decision to the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings, they reversed the fortunes and earned an impressive 6-2 victory for the championship title on Sunday. Humbke’s contributions were extremely valuable. The Bachelor of Kinesiology student displayed a positive attitude, regardless of the circumstances over the weekend. His personality helped strengthen the Kings’ cohesiveness, which became even more important as the stakes rose on the final day. He worked incredibly hard and left it all out there on the ice.
