Feb 13, 2018 | 10:50 AM

One man is in custody after ditching a stolen vehicle following the arrival of a county peace officer and running into the forest before being apprehended.

Mounties say they received a call at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning that a vehicle had been stolen in the area. While members were speaking with the complainant, a Brazeau County peace officer advised that he was on scene of a vehicle in the ditch off of Range Road 71 in Brazeau County.

The vehicle the peace officer was calling in was the one that was presently being reported stolen. The lone occupant in the vehicle had run off through the bush and deep snow upon the officer’s arrival.

Drayton Valley RCMP members attended the area and after a lengthy foot chase through knee high snow and dense bush, the lone occupant of the vehicle was apprehended and the vehicle that had been reported stolen was recovered.

A 19 year old male is currently in custody and charges are pending. This suspect has also been arrested on an outstanding warrants from Edmonton Police Service for evading police, plus nine additional charges.

“This is a great example of teamwork between the Drayton Valley RCMP and the Brazeau County Peace Officer’s” says Sergeant Erin Matthews of the Drayton Valley RCMP. “By working together, we were able to recover a stolen vehicle and apprehend a male responsible.”
