It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of Winnifred Ann Eckert (Cook), on Aug. 13th, 2019, following a very brief battle with cancer. Winnie was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, lived many years in Brooks, Alberta, and recently moved to Red Deer, Alberta after living in London Ontario with her grandson, Mikey. Winnie is best known for her unconditional love for her grandchildren: Dierdre, Mikey, J.J., Anakin, Josh and Brody and her greatest pleasure was experiencing the wonders of the world during adventures and learning through their eyes. She found happiness through quilting, knitting, Tim Hortons (Small with 2 cream and a sour cream glazed donut), the sea air, volunteering with Victim Services, the silly antics of children, Cardinals and Hummingbirds, the smell of Carnations, the love of her family and her hometown province of Nova Scotia. Winnie will be remembered her quiet presence, beautiful quilts, ‘ugly’ sweaters, soft voice, kind eyes and love for children.
Winnie is pre-deceased by her parents: Merton Cook and Millie Cook (Vickery), her sister Margaret (Peggy), her spouse, Colin Eckert and her granddaughter, Tara-Jade Scarlett. She is survived by children: Elizabeth, and Daniel; her brothers Daniel (Muriel) and John (Holly) Cook; her sisters Susan (Doug), Angela (Jeff) as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family. Donations can be made to a choice charity in lieu of flowers. Winnie will be brought to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
