WINIFRED THERESA LEDIEU
1924 – 2025
Win Ledieu of Red Deer AB passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025 at the age of 101 years.
Win was born in Dartford, England on March 3, 1924. She enlisted in the air force when she was 16 years old. Win served during WW2 from 1939-1945. During that time, she met Wilfred Gibney, and they were married when the war ended. Win came to Canada as a war bride by ship to Halifax and from there she rode a train to Canora, SK where they settled and started their family.
Theresa was born 1946, Robert 1948, and Gerald in 1951. The family moved to Flin Flon MB in 1954, and Thomas was born in 1956. Wilfred passed away in 1965. Three years later, mom remarried to Fred Ledieu who had two children, Rick and Ellen.
They resided in Flin Flon MB until their move to Red Deer AB in 1985. Fred passed away in 1996.
Win was always volunteering for one organization or another. When they arrived in Red Deer AB she continued her volunteer work. Win was also a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Win is survived by her children Gerald Gibney, Thomas (Brenda) Gibney and family, Ellen Ledieu, Rick (Pat) Ledieu and family; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was predeceased by her husbands Wilfred and Fred; daughter Theresa; son Robert and granddaughter Michelle.
In keeping with Win’s wishes there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Central Alberta Cancer Centre, PO Bag 5030, Red Deer AB T4N 4E7. Condolences to Win’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “LEDIEU” in the subject line.
