William (Bill) Tadashi Okada

Bill’s journey into hard earned senior years was abruptly intervened upon by illness. While the absence of opportunity to become old and difficult weighs heavily on his loved ones, the unique character of who he was resonates. A jack of many trades in life, Bill had a passion for technology and science, a tempered history with thrills in snow sports and classic rock music, a knack for dry quips and fibs, and an extensive knowledge about literature of other worlds and monsters. His life was guided by challenging himself for excellence, obtaining his Doctor of Medicine and Master of Surgery from McGill University in 1981 and completing his PhD at the University of Alberta in 1992 to practice as an ophthalmologist until 2021. In his retirement he thrived on movie dates, trips to meals with his children, and naps with one his best friends Beau the dog.
“Well, here at last, dear friends, on the shores of the Sea comes the end of our fellowship in Middle-earth. Go in peace! I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Return of the King
Pre-deceased by his parents, Kanako and Hidekazu. He is remembered by his loving wife Edith and his siblings Anita and Derek. He is survived by his children Kevin, Matthew, Erin, and his dog Beau who keeps the couch warm in his honour.
