Ms. Wendy Henry of Red Deer, passed away suddenly at the age of 68 years, on July 22, 2021. Wendy was born on January 28, 1953, in Red Deer, Alberta. She was a caring daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be lovingly remembered by her father Sydney Ellis, brother Brian (Kira) Ellis, sister-in-law Charlotte Ellis, nephews Jay, Berg, and Joel Ellis, niece Annika Ellis, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was pre-deceased by her mother Laverne Ellis; brothers Ron and Rick Ellis; husband Des Henry; and stepmother Claire Ellis.
Wendy graduated from Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School in 1971. She briefly considered becoming a teacher, but instead became interested in nursing and graduated as a registered practical nurse from the Alberta Hospital School of Nursing in Ponoka, Alberta in 1981. Initially she worked as a psychiatric nurse and then continued her education, achieving her nursing degree from the Grant MacEwan Community College in 1986. Wendy worked as a nurse at the Red Deer Regional Hospital from 1986 until her retirement in 2013. She found fulfillment caring for people in their most difficult time and held onto numerous lasting friendships from her work. In her retirement she enjoyed travelling with her dad, aunt Fay Chisholm, nephew Jay and her dear friend Fay. She spear-headed the development of the recently formed Michener Hill Community Association and took great pride in this work. She will always be remembered for her outgoing personality, infectious laugh, bright smile, and scarves…
A celebration of life is to take place on Friday, August 6th at 1:00 pm at the Eventide Funeral Home, 4820 45 St, Red Deer, Alberta.
