We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Walter Carl Baier, who was born abroad on a ranch January 18, 1951, in Minden, Nebraska, and passed away on March 27, 2025, in Red Deer, Alberta. He was the firstborn child of Walter Karl Baier and Norma Ruby Helen Tennis. Walter passed with his sister Brenda and his special friend Paula Ward by his side.
Walter was predeceased by his father, Walter; his mother, Norma; his brother, David; and his granddaughter, Ella.
Walter was loved by everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was a cherished brother, father, uncle, grandfather, husband, partner, and friend. His love of land and the great outdoors was passed down from his parents, who raised Walter and his siblings in a never-ending world of self made fun, that existed on the outside of the back door. His mind for mechanics and wonders of how everything worked, was fostered by his dad, who “patiently” and with good humour put up with Corky (Walter) stuck to his side, while working in the shop. He will be fondly remembered for his passions: hunting, camping, fishing, gardening, and above all, spending time with his family, especially his seven grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye. Walter was always ready to lend a hand or offer advice, and his passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy of love and perseverance will live on forever.
He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Jason) and Kelly (Paul); his sons, Jeremie, Benjie, and Alex (Carlie); his siblings, Terry (Yan Lin) and Brenda (Dale) and numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
The last few months were challenging for Walter as cancer treatments led to kidney failure and a weakening heart. He remained strong, maintaining his sense of humor and love until the end when we lost him on March 27.
We may have lost a great man, but he’s definitely with the angels now. The man, the mystery, the legend, the saint Walter Carl Baier once said; have strength when you need it, help others when you can.
A celebration of Walter’s life will be announced at a later date. If you would like to share stories, pictures, and memories, please contact his daughter Kelly at kelly_baier@hotmail.com.
