It is with sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Thursday, March 21, 2024, Virginia Margaret Joyce Brunner went to be with her Lord and Saviour at the age of 90 years.
Virginia (Joyce) was born to Thomas and Hulda Croker at the Hanna Hospital. She along with her four sisters and two brothers, spent their early years between Hanna, Oyen and Youngstown.
Joyce married Martin on October 22, 1950, and together they raised their five children. Joyce was a homemaker. She loved cooking, canning, and gardening. They lived in Beiseker, Sundre and Hanna, before moving to Edmonton. In 1965, they moved to Red Deer and then to Lacombe in 1972, where Martin managed Tall Pine TV. Later they moved back to Red Deer before retiring to Alix. Joyce and her husband Martin were people of faith. They were always very involved in their Church. In October of 2015 they moved to the Lodge in Lacombe.
Knitting was a way of life for Joyce. She and Martin had a small business called “Marjoy Enterprises”, selling knitting machines and providing instruction and training for knitting machines. They were a distributor for Brother Knitting Machines. These machines were quite complex. The earlier models were hand operated using punch cards with later models implementing computer software with motor driven mechanisms.
Joyce is survived by her two sons Glenn (Gail), Greg (Ann), eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Martin, her son Randy, daughters Barbara and Margot, grandchildren Miranda and Matthew Warren, her parents Thomas and Hulda, her sisters, Iris, Gail, Hughina and Darlene and her brother Ray.
A graveside service will take place at the Fairview Cemetery in Lacombe on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 1:00 pm. The public is invited to an open house to join the family for a time of fellowship and sharing at 2:00 pm at the Lacombe Performing Arts Centre, 5227 Calgary Edmonton Trail, Lacombe, Alberta.
Condolences to Joyce’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate Brunner in the subject line.
