It is with great sadness we announce the passing of longtime Red Deer resident Victor Daly on March 03rd, 2025. Victor was born August 12th, 1952, to Charles & Eleanor Daly in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
He was predeceased by his father Charles H. Daly. Victor is survived by his wife Nellie (Sidoroff), his mother Eleanor A. Daly of Peterborough, Ontario, his brother Charles R. Daly (Carol), his sister Mary Van Veen (Walter) and sister Audrey Daly, Victors son James J. Daly (Susan), stepsons Brad and Brian Himer, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Victor’s interests included snowmobiling, motorcycling and fishing. Victors’ passion of snowmobiles started with their sales at his fathers marina. He became involved in racing when they started selling Yamahas and Mercuries. Fortunately, he was invited to Japan courtesy of Yamaha representing the top dealership in Ontario. Victor loved to waterski from the Marina down the river pulling greenery from the bank and splashing the ladies. His pleasure for skiing on water seamlessly transferred to snow when he moved West. He drove motorcycles almost as soon as he got his drivers licence. That passion grew throughout his lifetime. He was proud of doing numerous trips across Canada, Mexico and the USA on his motorcycle. He appreciated Nellie’s support in all of his adventures. The 4 Corners circuit of the USA he proudly rode solo in the allotted time to earn the coveted buckle, followed by a stop to visit his mom in Peterborough before riding home. He wrote an article that was published encouraging others to do the same. Victor bought his latest bike in Ontario this past September and rode it home to Red Deer after one of his many trips East to visit his family.
Victor took the skills learned at his family marina West. He worked as a Driver Examiner for the Alberta Provincial Government in Edmonton, Peace River and Lethbridge. Victor contributed to the communities he resided in. He was a member of the Peace River volunteer Fire Department. Peace River is where Victor met Nellie. Nellie followed Victor to Lethbridge when he was transferred for work. They settled and married in Coaldale where both were active members of the Coaldale & District Fire Department. In 1993, they relocated and made Red Deer their home where Victor worked for Red Deer City Transit, retiring in September 2020.
Victors also loved fishing. This took him to the west coast of B.C where the salmon didn’t have a chance of escape.
Victor will be missed by family and many friends. May he rest in peace.
There will be no funeral. At a later date there will be a private family graveside gathering in Nova Scotia.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to the Red Deer Hospice Society at 99 Arnot Ave. Red Deer, Alberta. T4R 2R4
