Vera May Danser (Huish) nee Short

April 22, 1931 – January 29, 2025

Vera Danser passed away on January 29 at the Lacombe Hospital & Care Center at the age of 93.

She was the youngest daughter of Eva Louise (Patrick) and Charles Short.

Predeceased by her two sons, Charlie Huish (1993) & Jim Danser (2015), Vera is survived by six remaining children, Les (Debbie), Steve (Annette), Barb (Myles), Darrel (Carol), Eric (Carol) and Paul, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her sister Joyce Hagen, numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

While Vera was born, raised and lived most of her life in Alberta, she also enjoyed living in Vancouver, England & Scotland. Vera had the great opportunity to travel and visit several different countries in her younger years.

One of Vera’s greatest loves in life was playing music.  She played by ear and was gifted with the ability to play almost any instrument she put her hand to. The many years spent playing in bands with friends, entertaining in seniors’ facilities and at parades, brought her great joy and the fondest memories. She also took pleasure in being outdoors, watching rodeos, horse races, gardening and watching the Edmonton Oilers games.

Having an excellent sense of style & fashion, Vera always enjoyed looking her best which contributed to her success at selling Avon for several years.

Vera was a great cook and, whether feeding a large family, work crew or a simple meal for one or two, she had the ability to create delicious meals without the need for recipes. If there was a special occasion you could be certain there would be decorations and it was a celebration.

In Vera’s later years she enjoyed playing piano for fellow residents in her building as well as sitting outside and visiting.  She was an avid crocheter, put together puzzles, did artwork and went out for meals with family.

Vera treasured visits and phone calls from family and friends. For Vera, life was a gift. She was positive, optimistic and made the most of each day.

Vera was loved and she will be missed.

A Celebration of Life was held at the Kozy Korner in Lacombe on Saturday, February 8th at 1:00pm.
