Ursula Frieda Ganzlin
March 28, 1934 – February 24, 2026
It is with deep love and gratitude for a long life well lived, that we mourn the passing of Ursula Ganzlin, of Victoria Park Senior Living in Red Deer AB, formerly of Rimbey AB, on February 24, 2026, at the age of 91.
She will be remembered by her loving daughters Ursula Weeks (Peter Weeks) of Nanton AB, Karen Ganzlin of Calgary AB, Grandson Brock Roberts (Caitlin Roberts) and their newborn baby, great grandson Lloyd MacLean Roberts of Calgary AB.
Born and raised on a farm in Germany, hard work was embedded into Ursula. While studying Home Economics, she met her future husband Dieter (Dick), studying Agriculture. They left war-torn Germany for a new life in Canada, Dad blazing trail and settling in Calgary in 1955, Mom joining him in 1956, marrying. Daughter Ursula was born in 1957, daughter Karen in 1960.
Farming was their passion. In 1965 they bought their first farm SE of Calgary, where they raised cattle, pigs, and a barn full of one thousand egg laying chickens. Mom did the daily farm work, while Dad commuted to work in Calgary. In 1974 Dad retired from the construction industry. They sold their first farm and bought their dream farm south of Rimbey.
Mom was in her element. A keen homemaker, gardener, pig barn manager, baby pig raiser, poultry farmer, cattle woman, dog and cat lover. She created many gorgeous flower and vegetable gardens. Her love of cooking, preserving, baking, sewing, and all things domestic will be forever remembered by her family, friends and neighbours. The only thing she did not do was field work.
Mom lost our Dad to cancer in 1992. She continued to manage the farm on her own until 1996. She sold the farm and built herself a new house in the town of Rimbey. Volunteer work at the hospital and senior care home kept her busy for 20 years, a tireless worker forever remembered for her kindness, generosity and compassion for those in need, especially the elderly.
In 2015, Mom sold her house and moved to Victoria Park in Red Deer. An avid reader, she could often be found immersed in a good book, always eager to learn new things. As an unofficial cheer ambassador, she loved taking care of people with kind notes, candy treats and chocolate bars, always looking for those who needed a cheery word or a smile. She resided there until her passing.
Ursula was predeceased by her husband Dick Ganzlin, her parents, two sisters, one brother, plus many other relatives in Germany.
