Thomas Harley Jones
June 2, 1929 – April 24, 2025
It is with profound sadness that the family of Harley Jones of Red Deer announces his passing at the Innisfail Hospital Centre on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the age of 95 years.
Harley was born in Vancouver, BC, was a gifted artist and craftsman, and spent his high school summers as a merchant marine, travelling between Vancouver and Asia. He met the love of his life, Ellajean Gingrich, at Vancouver Technical High School and they married on September 22, 1951. In 1962, they moved to Northern Alberta with their four daughters, and son on the way. Then in 1964 they moved to Red Deer, where other than seven years in Bowden, they lived for the remainder of their years. Harley worked for 32 years with Shell Canada until his retirement in 1982. Harley and Ellajean traveled extensively, spending considerable time in Victoria, BC Dad was proud of his family, showing a keen interest in the activities and careers of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered by his family and friends.
Harley was predeceased by his wife of 73 years, Ellajean, last November. He is survived by his five children – Marilyn (Doug) Williamson, Brenda (Bill) MacDonald, Annette (Phil) Jensen, Barbara (Jim) Heinzlmeir, and Russell (Tracey) Jones; nine grandchildren – Heather (Darin), Jeff (Belem), Eric (Ayesha), Garrett (Kelsey), Kurt, Michael (Rayna), Carla, Kristen (Josh), and Matthew; as well as 16 great-grandchildren, whom he loved and adored.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Optima Aspen Ridge, and the doctors and nurses of Innisfail Hospital, for their care and support.
As per Dad’s wishes, a private celebration of life will be held for family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation.
