Tom Altheim passed away unexpectedly on November 14, 2021 at his home in Red Deer, Alberta, at the age of 58. He enjoyed an early career as an EMT in Drayton Valley where he met his future wife Sandy, and later in 1997 found his true calling as a massage therapist. Growing up in Stony Plain he played hockey for many years, including the Stony Plain Flyers Junior team, and also swam competitively with the Stony Plain Sharks.
Tom was happiest spending time with family and friends. Tom enjoyed camping, woodworking, puttering in the garage and visiting with neighbors. His ultimate achievement were his sons’ Devin and Brett. The three amigos enjoyed spending time together watching football, baseball, WWE, and going to music concerts. Tom volunteered with all the sports teams the boys were involved with, including Hunting Hills High School football and rugby, and the Red Deer Special Olympics chapter for swimming, softball and more recently, floor hockey (he’ll be sorry that he never got the sticks fixed). Papa Tom was popular with all the athletes on the boys’ sports teams and there was always an abundance of laughter and teasing at practices and games.
Tom will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 28 years Sandy Duckett, son Devin Altheim, son Brett Altheim, mother Ruth Altheim, sister Gwen Gabel, nephew Billy (Shannon) Gabel, niece Sharon Gabel, great-nieces Lexi and Reese Gabel, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and all those he fondly called the ‘outlaws’. Tom was predeceased by his father, Ken Altheim in 2014. Tom will remain forever in our hearts.
