Thomas Dale Armstrong, of Drumheller Alberta, passed away on August 17, 2025, in Red Deer, Alberta.
Thomas, fondly known as Tommy Dale (in his younger years) or Tom, was born to Adam and Ruth Armstrong, on April 05, 1946, in Calgary, Alberta. He was the first of five children. Siblings Wayne, Ken, Katrina, and Tim would follow.
Tom lived his young life in Wayne, Alberta. Upon completing high school, he realized the love of his life was with him all along, he married Doreen Morgan, who attended the same school as Tom and lived in Rosedale, Alberta.
Tom and Doreen were married October 09, 1971, in Rosedale, Alberta. After marriage they moved to Edmonton, Alberta where Tom worked as an Air Frame Technician with the Royal Canadian Airforce (RCAF). While in Edmonton, Tom worked towards his Heavy-Duty Mechanic license. Together they had three children, Jamie, Chris and Dorinda. Tom and Doreen moved back to Drumheller in 1981 where they made a life for their family, settling in Rosedale in 1986 in a home he and his cousin Rick Armstrong built.
Tom worked for the Town of Drumheller where he honed his skills as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic, eventually opening his own shop, Aries Auto & Diesel. Before retirement he sold Aries Auto & Diesel and finished his career with Starland County as a mobile mechanic.
Tom had many hobbies throughout his life that he and Doreen shared a passion for together. Whether they were fishing at Blood Indian, golfing at Akokiniskway, working in the yard or camping, they were together. Both Tom and Doreen volunteered for many years with the Rosedale Recreational Society, where he was president for several of those years. Once the kids left the family home in Rosedale, they bought a small home in Drumheller that had a yard a retired fellow could put his mark on! There he spent his days tinkering in his shop, working in his yard and enjoying his deck.
Tom had an incredible soft spot for animals, the family had several dogs over the years, all of them very special in their own way. Also cherished was Lucy, his faithful companion of 8 years, who brought endless loyalty and slobbery kisses to the household.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 54 years, Doreen Armstrong, sons Jamie (Sherri) Armstrong and Chris (Laura) Armstrong, and daughter Dorinda (Vern) Isberg. His grandkids, Kalinda (Donnie) Homme, Sarah (Matt) Armstrong, Sean (Millie) Armstrong and Jordan (Phoebe) Armstrong. Tom was preceded in death by his father and mother, Adam and Ruth Armstrong, and sister Katrina Ostby.
To honor Tom’s memory, a memorial will be held at the Rosedale Recreational Hall, in Rosedale, Alberta, on Saturday, October 04, 2025, at noon. Please join us for lunch, refreshments and share some memories of Tom. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Drumheller & District Humane Society in Tom’s name.
