Thomas Allen “Tom” Barca of Red Deer, AB, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospice on Sunday February 22, 2026 at the age of 71.
Tom was born June 16, 1954 in Taber, AB to parents Mike & Rita Barca. He grew up in the country and loved riding horse while tending to cattle for Valgardsons from a young age. I remember traveling to Taber and crossing the river on highway 36 and looking up on the hill and seeing someone sitting on a beautiful Palomino horse with a long flowing mane and tail and thinking how free and peaceful they seemed. Little did I know that one day I would be married to him.
He attended high school at W.R. Myers but left before graduating to work in the oilfield. Tom spent over 40 years working on the Service Rigs, starting as a roughneck and ending as a Supervisor/Consultant. He enjoyed his work very much and missed it when he retired due to his health.
Tom enjoyed camping and fishing especially time spent in Kananaskis and Fairmont Hot Springs. He also enjoyed leather and woodwork.
Tom leaves behind his wife, Dianne and son, Justin of Red Deer. Also surviving are brother Mickey (Cheri) Barca of Brooks, sisters Dolly Craft of Sparwood, B.C., Kathy (Helmut) Brandt of Lundbreck, Dixie Plettl of Vauxhall, Rose Busato of Elkford, B.C., Judy (Dennis) Brooks of New Dayton, Sharon (Larry) Shaw of Lethbridge, brother-in-law Clayton Malm of Taber, sister-in-law Edna Foster of Lethbridge and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Rita Barca, brothers Jim, Sonny and Larry, sister Margaret Malm, brothers-in-law Larry Craft and Paul Plettl and father and mother-in-law Howard (Ted) and Pheobe Current.
As per Tom’s request, there will be no service. Everyone is asked to remember Tom in your own special way.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr Kym Jim and staff of the Red Deer Dialysis Unit for the care and kindness shown to Tom over the past years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Tom’s name to Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 – Arnot Ave, Red Deer, AB T4R 3S6.
