Ted Bogner 

July 9, 1938 – May 30, 2026 

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ted Bogner on May 30, 2026 at the Red Deer Hospice at the age of 87 years old. 

Ted was born in Didsbury, Alberta on July 9, 1938.  Ted was the youngest of 5 children to John and Helene Bogner.  He spent his early years on the farm west of Didsbury but moved to Calgary with his parents when he was only 11 years old.  However, he did return to the farm to help his older brother with harvest for many years as an adult. 

As a young man growing up in Calgary Ted had many different jobs including being a bicycle courier as well as your neighborhood milk man.  As Ted would tell the story “While browsing through the Calgary Herald I noticed an ad suggesting an opportunity for a challenging and rewarding career with the CFD.  I submitted an application and was fortunate enough to be hired”.  On June 19, 1961 Ted began a career with CFD that lasted 34+ years.  During this time Ted held many positions including; Training Coordinator, Lieutenant, Captain, District Chief, Division Chief and finishing as Assistant Chief, all while remaining on “C” Shift.  He also served on the Executive of Local 255 for 14 years.  Ted always said it was “ONE OF THE BEST JOBS AROUND”. 

During his retirement Ted and Lorna enjoyed spending their time traveling different parts of the world, spending their summers at Shuswap Lake and also spending the winters in Yuma, AZ. 

Ted will be lovingly remembered by his wife Lorna, his son and daughter, grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, as well as his step children and grandchildren.  Ted will also be remembered by extended family and many friends that he made through his years.  Let’s not forget LOKI who will miss his daily walks with dad but now has Ted’s comfy chair all to himself!  

The family would like to thank Red Deer Hospice Society and staff for the kindness and compassion shown while caring for our loved one.  Memorial donations may be made in memory of Ted to Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Society.
