Mrs. Sytske Martina Harkes of Red Deer, Alberta, was delivered on the wings of the angels to the arms of her Lord and Savior in Heaven, Monday, August 14, 2017 at the age of 92 years. We thank The Lord for his grace, that she did not suffer and that she was surrounded by loving family. Sytske immigrated to Canada from Holland with the love of her life, Jan Harkes, and their three children in 1954. The couple was blessed with seven more children in their new home. Her family was her pride and joy. Their first years in Canada were not always easy both financially, and emotionally, but alongside her loving husband, they persevered with strength and faith in The Lord. Mama was predeceased by her first son, Sido, in 1966 and her beloved husband, Jan, in 1998. Left to celebrate her life, are her nine beautiful children, their spouses, numerous grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Also left to lovingly remember her is family in Holland, The Netherlands and many dear friends. Sytske passionately and unconditionally loved with pride each and every one of the people that impacted her life. The family would like to sincerely say thank you for all your prayers, condolences, hugs, and flowers. A special thank you to all the nurses and doctors, for their excellent care. Mama we will miss your earthly presence, but will celebrate your legacy of compassion and loving one another, as you taught us all throughout our lives. May we always strive to do you proud and honour you; as you watch over us all in Heaven. We love you Mama, Oma, Great Oma and dearest friend. Rest in peace sweet Mama. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
