Sterling is mourned by his siblings, Carolyn Millar of PEI, Valerie Tennant, Judy Darmos and Sharon Nemeth of Ontario; Dorothy Russell and Wendy Baker of B.C.; Don Adams, Nancy Estabrooks, Ellis Adams and Cheryl Adams of Alberta, as well as numerous nieces’ nephews.
Sterling was born in O’Leary, Prince Edward Island, on October 26, 1936. After joining then leaving the army, Sterling came to Red Deer Alberta in 1956. He met his gorgeous wife at the ‘Club Café’ Diner in downtown Red Deer. They married and moved to Medicine Hat, where they became proud parents of four children. After becoming the bestselling car salesman at Klaudt’s Toyota, Sterling and Phyllis opened Sterling Trailer Sales in the 1978 and sold it to Mark Semrau and Rick Porter in 2005.
Besides his family, Sterling’s other loves were stock car racing (he was the first president of the Medicine Hat Speedway), RV camping, watching sports on TV, and sitting with a coffee and cigarette on the lawnmower on his acreage. Sterling was a very proud and supportive 50-year member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Sterling will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Sterling was larger than life yet humble. Sterling left this world peacefully. We love you, husband, father, brother, friend; you were always our provider and protector. Ya did good!
