It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Stella Stimson on April 1st 2020 at the Dr. Gerald Zetter Care Center in Edmonton. Stella was born on April 3, 1931 in Northern Valley, Alberta. She was the daughter of Ukrainian immigrants. Stella grew up on a farm near Elk Point and later moved to Edmonton where she met her husband Stan. She is survived by her twin sister Sue (Sophie) Edwards of Kelowna, brother Peter Woytowich (Eileen) and younger sister Jean Faulkner (Barry Klippert) of Cochrane. She was predeceased by her older sister, Lorayne Woytowich, and her husband of 40 years, Stanley Stimson.
Stella’s greatest offering was the gift of love she left for others, especially her family. She will be deeply cherished by her four children: daughters Janice Vikse (Kevin) and Debbie Cooper (Steven), sons Wayne, and Kevin (Karie); and three beloved grandchildren: Graham (Tara), Jordon (Annette) and Morgan; and one great grandchild Weston.
Stella was very active in the Red Deer community, including the Red Deer Optimist club and in founding the Learning Disability Association of Red Deer. Stella spent her retirement in Mesa, Arizona where she was active in the computer club, golfing and enjoying her friends and family. During the last decade of her life, Stella faced significant health challenges including dementia. The family took comfort in having her nearby in Edmonton during this difficult time.
The family wishes to thank all staff at the Zetter Center for all the care and attention they gave Stella. Due to circumstances, a private graveside memorial will held in Red Deer for family members. Memorial donations can be made to the Dr Gerald Zetter Care Center, Pastoral Care Fund. 9649-71 Ave; Edmonton AB; T6E 5J2.
