It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our father, Samuel Walter Hutzkal in Red Deer AB on May 2, 2025.
Sam was born in Edmonton AB on May 1, 1959 to Nick and Mary Hutzkal. He spent his summers on Sandy Beach with his four siblings at Lake Wabamun, waterskiing at their grandparents family cabin. Sam had a passion for the outdoors, including fishing, woodworking as well as antique restoration.
In his teenage years, he moved with his family throughout Lower mainland BC, where he and his wife of 32 years, Ida, settled in North Vancouver and had two children Joseph and Jennifer. He would spend his free time volunteering at local racetracks as well as participating in many demolition derbies throughout BC and Alberta.
Moving the family to Alberta in 1988, Sam found his passion as a Red Seal heavy duty mechanic, mirroring his father’s lifelong career. He shared much of his valuable knowledge of classic cars and Mechanics along with admirable work ethic with his children. Sam loved to play guitar and sing any chance he could, especially classic country and rock. He could have the room laughing in no time at all and will be remembered for his comical personality and wit.
His memory will forever be cherished by his two children, Joseph Hutzkal, Jennifer (Quinn) Grinde; grand children Benjamin and Scarlett Grinde; his children’s mother Ida Hutzkal as well as his four siblings and their families. He was predeceased by his brother Ritchie Hutzkal and parents Nicholas and Mary Hutzkal.
A private service will be held. Condolences to Sam’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Samuel Hutzkal” in the subject line.
