Ruth Elizabeth Parent

Ruth Elizabeth Parent passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on July 7, 2026, at her home in Red Deer, Alberta.
Born in 1944, in Chilliwack, BC, Ruth spent her early years in Vedder Crossing, where she enjoyed a simple childhood filled with time outdoors, neighbourhood friends, and the everyday adventures of growing up in a close-knit community.
The birth of her only child, Rick, in 1964 marked an important milestone in her life, ushering in a new chapter filled with both the joys and challenges of motherhood.
Ruth worked closely with the public, first as a waitress and later at a gas station. She got to know many of the regular customers well and was warmly regarded by those in the community who knew her.
In 1980, she moved to Ottawa with her partner, Cyril (Cy) Williams, where they lived until returning to Chilliwack in 2003.
After more than 30 years together, Cy passed away in an unfortunate accident in 2011. His passing marked a deeply significant and personal chapter in Ruth’s life after decades of shared experiences, commitment, and companionship.
Following Cy’s passing, Ruth continued to live a full and busy life. She enjoyed playing bingo (if there was a game within 50 miles, she was already there!), darts, reading, and spending time doing crossword puzzles and Sudoku. These simple pleasures brought her joy throughout the years. She also had a deep love for her dog, Whiskey, and felt his loss very deeply after he passed away.
In 2023, Ruth moved to Alberta to be closer to her family. She spent her final years in a retirement home, surrounded by the comfort of family visits and shared time together.
Although she enjoyed no longer having to shop, cook, or clean; after years of working with the public, she had happily reached the stage in life where she didn’t feel the need to people much anymore.
Ruth is survived by her son Rick; daughter-in-law Cheryl; granddaughters Cassy and Alyssa; sister Phyllis, and brother Ralph.
She was predeceased by many cherished family members and friends who held a special place in her heart.
