It is with great sorrow as well as profound gratitude for his life, that we announce that Ronald “Ron” William Roden went to be with his Lord and Saviour on May 22, 2026, at the age of 85 years. A man whose life was a living prayer. Ron’s journey began on February 16, 1941 in Drumheller, Alberta and was one of purpose, adventures and firsts – rooted in faith, enriched by a distinguished 35 year career in teaching, coaching, 4-H, farming, local, regional and national science fairs and later in life, owning and operating a Video/Arcade, truck driving, being a huge part of the Live-In Society all the way to the International level, gardening and being a published Genealogist with nine books to date and many more on the go.
Ron believed that success was measured not in titles or accolades, but in the lives touched along the way. He never backed down from a challenge, he gave his all to everything he committed to and always said “A job worth doing, is a job worth doing well”. Ron’s laughter filled family gatherings, his counsel guided family, friends and colleagues, and his humble, quiet acts of kindness reflected the heart of Christ. If you were loved by Ron, you knew a special kind of loyalty. He was not a man of many words, but when he spoke, it was important and people paid attention. His wisdom, kindness, love and steadfast faith will continue to leave a legacy that will echo for generations
Ron’s greatest joy was found in the company of family. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lynn and her children: Reece, Stacy (Joanna) and Sherry; his sons from his first marriage: Rob (Treena), Grant (Rosemary), Terry (Tammy); his grandchildren Megan (Neil), Scott (Elizabeth), Cassidy, Britney (Nils), Kolbi, Lukas (Tanisha), Victoria (Xander) and Sheridyn; his great grandchildren: Emily, Ethan, Alexia, Rebecca, Cody and Ceyanna. Also to cherish Rons memory are his brothers: Gerald (Joanne), Keith (Nicki); his treasured nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family members and friends. Ron was predeceased by his mother Gladys and his father Albert.
In celebration of Ron’s life, a Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Parish, 6 – McMillan Ave, Red Deer, AB on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at 11:00 am with Fr. Robert Lee officiating. Following Mass, there will be a slideshow and luncheon in the parish hall.
The family wishes to extend our gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff on both Units 31 and 32 of Red Deer Regional Hospital for the care we received. It was exceptional and appreciated.
~ Next time you drive under a bridge…make sure you duck and think of Ron! ~
