Ronald (Ron) James Pettit of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on August 23, 2026, at the age of 76 years.
Ron was born in July 1950 at the Calgary General Hospital. He would not discover until years later that Marie, the love of his life, had been born in the same hospital only two days after him. It was as though their lives were connected from the very beginning.
Ron and Marie met in 1967 when they were placed in the same Grade 12 homeroom at Crescent Heights High School in Calgary. Their friendship grew into a beautiful love story, and they were married on February 12, 1972.
In June 1972, Ron and Marie moved to Lake Wabamun, where Ron began his career with Calgary Power. Together, they raised their two beautiful daughters, Michele and Shannon.
In 1980, the family moved to Red Deer, where Ron began a 32-year career with NOVA Chemicals. Ron was a hardworking and dependable man who took great pride in providing for his family.
There was very little Ron could not do. He could fix, repair or build almost anything. If something was broken, Ron would find a way to make it work again. His knowledge, patience and willingness to help others were just a few of the many qualities that made him so special.
Above everything else, Ron loved his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and father-in-law, beloved son of the late Winifred and Raymond Pettit, beloved brother, a proud grandfather to six grandchildren, and a treasured great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren. His family was his greatest joy, and he was happiest when everyone was together.
For more than 30 years, Ron and Marie enjoyed their home in Phoenix, Arizona. It truly became their home away from home and a very special place for their family. Ron loved walking around the lake, spending time with family and friends, and being on the golf course, always trying to improve his score.
Ron especially loved it when people came to visit. He and Marie enjoyed showing them all the wonderful sights and experiences the Phoenix area had to offer. Many beautiful memories were made in their home over the years. It is comforting to know that their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will continue to enjoy this special family home and create memories there for many years to come.
Ron and Marie shared more than 58 wonderful years of love, laughter, family, adventures and precious memories. Their love was truly a once-in-a-lifetime love. Through every season of life, Ron remained Marie’s greatest supporter, protector and best friend.
Ron faced his illness with tremendous courage and strength. He spent his final days in the comfort of his own home, cared for and surrounded by the family he loved so deeply.
Ron will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his wife, Marie; his daughters, Michele (Scott) and Shannon (Ian); his six grandchildren, Clayton (Vera), Ashley, Taylor (Dexter), Jacob, Tanner, and Carter; his six great-grandchildren; his sisters, Diane and Susan; and his extended family and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Living Stones Church, 2020 40 Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta. In memory of Ron, the family kindly asks that you donate to the charity of one’s choice.
Ron’s love, strength and kindness will live on through his family and the many lives he touched.
Thank you for waiting for me, Ron.
Forever I DO. ❤️
