Robin Irvine passed to her eternal rest on Monday, January 20, 2020 at Red Deer Hospital after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Robin was born in Kindersley, Saskatchewan on June 15, 1964. She graduated from Outlook High School, completed a degree in education at the University of Saskatchewan and a master’s degree in education from the University of Calgary. She had a passion for teaching and placed emphasis on reading and the importance of sports and teamwork in a child’s life. Strong leadership skills and the ability to encourage and inspire others were the basis for a successful career in teaching and administration. Robin also applied these skills to support her husband, Rick, in the success of the family business, Blueridge Water Hauling. She was a dedicated and well-respected principal of Terrace Ridge School in Lacombe until her illness forced her to leave the work she loved. At Terrace Ridge, a beautiful outdoor learning garden called the Robin’s Nest was created in her honour, recognizing the positive impact she had on students and staff.
Robin’s remarkable ability to teach extended well beyond the classroom. Robin taught others what it means to be brave, positive and strong through times of adversity. She found courage and strength by embracing her faith, loving her family and being optimistic. Her motto was to have an Attitude of Gratitude. Her enthusiasm, energy, sparkling eyes and warm smile lit up any room! She loved to laugh and was a master storyteller. Robin’s generosity and concern for the well-being and happiness of others was inspirational. Robin loved with all her heart and cherished her family above all else. She loved nothing more than planning and holding family dinners, fun gatherings and parties to celebrate each milestone and accomplishment along the way. Robin was a caring soul with a way of making others feel special; emphatically recognizing and celebrating the people in her life. Robin touched the lives of so many people and will be cherished in our hearts forever.
Robin leaves behind to celebrate her life, her loving husband Rick Hambly, sons Mitchell Irvine (Veronica) and Kent Hambly, daughters Teale Ronnie (Mike) and Lindsy Hambly-Britton (Brad), and grandchildren Zachary Hambly, Owen Hambly-Britton, Mason Britton and Holden Ronnie. Robin was also survived by her loving parents Robert and Marilyn Lockwood, grandfather Harold Appleby, brother Davin Lockwood (Gwen), sister Tanya McDonald (Mitch), niece Brooklyn McDonald and nephews Taylor McDonald, Tanner Lockwood and Nathan Lockwood. She enjoyed an extensive family of aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of Robin’s life will be held on Wednesday January 29 at 1:00 pm at Living Stones Church, 2020 – 40 Avenue, Red Deer AB.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in Robin’s memory to support student programs in Wolf Creek School Division No 72 (canadahelps.org), the Central Alberta Cancer Centre, where Robin received excellent care (specify Central Alberta within Alberta Cancer Foundation- giving.albertacancer.ca) or the Reading College program helping readers entering Grade 3 who are struggling (Foundation for Red Deer Public Schools- canadahelps.org).
