Robert “Wayne” Roberts, dearly loved husband of Sheila, passed away Monday, March 11, 2019 at the age of 72 years following a brief illness. Besides Sheila, he is survived by his two sons, Chad and Todd (Sinhead), two very special granddaughters, Keegan and Brynna Roberts, his best friend, Larry Quintilio, and his yellow Lab, Simba. Wayne’s three sisters and their spouses, two brother-in-laws, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends will also miss him. He was predeceased by his parents and one sister.
Wayne began his 33-year career with AGT / Telus in 1966 as an apprentice lineman in Calgary. Moving to Red Deer in 1972, he worked in various areas of the company, always enjoying the challenge of learning something new. In 1999, he retired from Telus to spend more time growing and hybridizing dahlias, bird hunting with Simba, and refining his role as Grandpa to Keegan and Brynna – his girls!
Wayne’s straightforward approach to life, his honesty and integrity, his humour, and his talent with all things related to gardening and flowers, especially dahlias, will be remembered. We will miss his presence forever, but memories of him will be our treasures.
Respecting Wayne’s wishes, no funeral service is planned. A private gathering for family and friends to honour his life will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined.
Our family will be forever grateful for the compassionate care and kindness given to Wayne and us by the staff at the Red Deer Hospice. You are all true angels and we thank you for being there.
