Robert Leonard Arthur Hartley

Robert Leonard Arthur Hartley was born on April 15th,1958 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. He unexpectedly passed away April 16th, 2024, in his residence, one day after his birthday at the age of 66.

Rob spent most of his life working as a devoted truck driver.  In 2023, he was awarded “The Million Miler Club” award. The Million Miler Club is a badge of honor that shows off his trucking prowess. His million-mile truck engine has gone as far as the distance between the North and South Poles over 80 times.

In addition to being a truck driver, Rob found solace and joy in spending time on his farm. He loved his vast spread of odd and unique farm animals and equipment. After a long day of trucking, he took pleasure in feeding the animals, it was therapeutic for him.

Rob cherished time with the boundless number of people he grew up with and met along the way. Neighbors, long-time friends, long lost friends as well as new friends would often stop in just to see how Rob was and what he was selling. Fellow truckers would pass by the farm and blow their horns. Rob would see trucks and hear horns from his spot at the kitchen table or his recliner and it would put a smile on his face.

Rob was a big staple in the Delburne and Red Deer communities. He was always surrounded by his friends and loved ones. He was known for his great sense of humor and love of conversation, he often referred to talking as “Chin-wagging.”

 

He was a loving father and grandfather and will be remembered and missed by his son and daughter Kyle and Kyra Hartley, his grandchildren Adalay Lamoureux, Gavin Hartley and Zenday Hartley. Rob is also survived by his two brothers Roy Hartley and Richard (Rick) Hartley and Rick’s son Lawson Hartley. He will be missed by his partner Evelyn Van Beest, her sons Adrian and his family as well as Andrew, along with many cousins, family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Richard Hartley and mother Ruby Hartley (Duncan) along with his aunts Tilly and Ruby Hartley.

 

In honor of Robert, we will be having a celebration on Saturday, May 4th, 2024 at 11:00 am at The Delburne Community Hall Society, located at 2034, 21^st Ave.
Attendees are encouraged to share stories about Rob to commemorate his life and legacy. His father Richard Hartley passed away on this day; May 4^th, 2021 and will also be remembered on this day.
