It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Fredrick Olson, who left this life peacefully on August 13, 2025 at the age of 89 years.
Robert was born in Sylvan Lake on August 2, 1936 and raised on the family farm north of Markerville. He left the farm as a young man and worked throughout Alberta, driving trucks and laying power lines, but shortly after he married, he returned to his true calling: farming. He purchased the home quarter and then acquired additional land, raising hogs and cattle for over 50 years. He remained living on the farm until he moved to Red Deer in 2024.
He will be remembered as a hardworking man with an indescribable love of the land, a devoted husband and father, a loving grandpa and great grandpa, and a kind brother, uncle, and friend.
Robert will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of 61 years Shirlene (nee Amundson); his children Kim (Larry), Jeff (Tanya), and Sandra (Kevin); grandchildren Justin (Krista), Jordan (Tia), Alana (Don), and Freeman; great grandchildren Elliet, Finley, and Ben, and siblings Shirley, Elaine, and Raymond.
He was predeceased by his father Fredrick Olson; mother Margaret Olson (nee Rempel); brother Spencer, and son-in-law Julian.
No formal service will be held. Memorial donations can be made in Robert’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
Condolences to Robert’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net . Please indicate “Robert Olson” in the subject line.
