It is with heavy hearts that we must say goodbye to Robert (Bob) Bownes who passed away suddenly in Red Deer on May 13, 2022 at the age of 80 years old. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dianne and his three sons Rob, Dave (Wendy), and Mike. His eight grandchildren Marcel, Brett, Sierra, Jared, Amia, Dempsey, Mireya, and Marin and three great grandchildren Anna, Jayden and Theo. Bob had eight brothers and sisters Doug, Ron, Gail, Coreen, Kenny (deceased), Allan, Peggy, and Danny. He will be fondly remembered by his many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Bob was born in the small town of Galahad on March 16, 1942 to Robert Sr. and Margaret Bownes. He was the oldest of nine children and grew up on a farm. He met and fell in love with Dianne from the nearby town of Killam. They married in 1966 and moved to Edmonton where he attended NAIT to become a mechanic. They then moved on to the town of Hinton and raised their family. Bob worked at a coal mine near Hinton for almost 35 years before moving to the Red Deer area to spend his retirement years. He grew up during the muscle car era and developed a strong passion for old vehicles, mopars and hot rods. Shortly after moving to Red Deer he joined the Cruisers Club. This led him to become an active member of the Central Alberta Mopar Association and the Specialty Vehicle Association of Alberta which he truly loved.
Bob was very smart and resourceful and “could fix anything”! He had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor and a great personality… leaving a lasting impression on anyone that came to know him. Kind, generous, hardworking, down to earth and devoted, his loss hurts deeply and he will never be forgotten.
A celebration of his life is scheduled for 2:00pm on Saturday, May 21, 2022 in Galahad, Alberta. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or STARS air ambulance. Condolences may be left for the family at www.eventidefuneralchapels.com
