Richard (Dick) Charles Glenfield

Born July 5, 1934 in Calgary; Richard passed away peacefully on November 13, 2017 at the Red Deer Hospice. For the past 11/2 years, he struggles with ALS (Lou Gehrig ’s disease) but bravely accepted its debilitating progression. Beloved husband of Linda, father of Ross (Vamini) and Heather (Dean) and proud grandfather of Eason and Evan. He also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Dorothy, and sibling, Frank, Dorothy and Ronald. His first wife Helen predeceased him in 1982.
Richard started his career with Alberta Government Telephones in Calgary and continued after his move to Red Deer in 1961, culminating his career in the role of Regional Manager. He was a long-time active member of St. Leonard’s-on-the-Hill Anglican Church and his strong faith was evident in his willingness to help and serve others. He was a member of the Red Deer Kiwanis Club for 54 years and was involved with numerous projects such as the Sherbino Girl Guide Camp at Sylvan Lake, the Terrific Kids School Program, the Kiwanis Music Festival and the Fall Apple Campaign. In retirement he enjoyed travelling with Linda, raising cattle and gardening. His family would like to thank Dr. Anthony Williams, the ALS Society, the Red Deer Hospice as well as the excellent support from nurses and therapists through Alberta Health Services. The compassionate care received from the Home Care Staff from the Catholic Social Services was much valued.
Celebration of Richard’s life will take place at St. Leonard’s-on-the-Hill Anglican Church, 4241 44 Street, Red Deer on Saturday, November 18th at 2:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Leonard’s Church, ALS Society of Alberta or the Red Deer Hospice Society would be appreciated.
