Richard (Rick) Bauer passed away suddenly on September 21st ,2021 in Medicine Hat Alberta. He has survived by his wife Rose Bauer and Children Richard Bauer and Family, Nicholas and wife Melissa Bauer, Amelia and husband Bruce Weibel and family. As well as his parents Richard and Katharina Bauer and siblings Cindy and husband Gary McIlhargey and family, Jackie and husband Bart Frasier and family, Gerald Bauer and Lloyd Bauer and family. Also, Rose’s family Neal and wife Nancy Symons and family, Ada and husband Nat Grossman and family, Bev and husband Pat Moore and family, and Linda Symons and family as well as his work family at Davron Trucking for many years that was owned and operated by Dave Millar.
Rick was born January 4th, 1959, in Calgary Alberta. They moved to a few different places in Alberta and British Columbia before Ricks family moved to Red Deer Alberta. Rick met Rose and they married in March of 1982. Rick always said he knew it was meant to be because the truck he drove at the time that he met Rose was named Rosie and had this displayed on the front of it. Rick and Rose stayed in Red Deer where they worked and raised their family until September of 2020. In September of 2020 they moved to Medicine Hat for the warmer weather that Rick felt better in.
Ricks passion was trucking. He spent many years working at Davron Trucking cleaning feedlots across Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. He was a dedicated employee and always willing to help his fellow coworkers. He enjoyed playing practical jokes and meeting all the different people over the years, many he considered good friends right up to his passing. He would often talk to many of these people and speak about their old trucking stories together. As Rick was a trucker, he took great pride the day that both his sons Richard and Nicholas had obtained their class 1 licenses also. Some of his happiest days driving were days his sons came to help and drove alongside him. He always spoke about how proud he was of his sons becoming truckers as well. Before Ricks retirement he decided to try out a new challenge of gravel hauling. He had never pulled a quad wagon before but took on the challenge and in a few days was pulling it like and old veteran would. During this time, he enjoyed working around home and spending more time in the evenings with his wife and grand kids. Driving was life to Rick behind his family, but gravel hauling allowed him to enjoy both until he retired.
Although his daughter Amelia never had a class 1 license, she was still daddy’s little girl. She would spend time learning anything she could from her dad. He was able to pass along his mechanical skills and some driving skills to Amelia. Family functions were never completed without a long debate and conversation about trucks. In Ricks opinion the best was a Western Star with a C15 Caterpillar. Although his sons and son in law would try to convince him otherwise, he wouldn’t be swayed.
Ricks grand kids were a big part of his life and he often said how lucky he was to have such amazing grandchildren. He had 5 grandsons and 2 grand daughters at the time of his passing. Each one enjoyed their time with “Opie” as they called him. Every time he heard Opie he would smile.
Rick and Rose had spent the last year traveling more than they had done in years. Many day trips enjoying picnics and fishing. He enjoyed exploring new and old places with Rose. He also enjoyed ice cream. Sometimes going for ice cream would end up being a 7-hour trip exploring the countryside
