Reverend John David Coe (April 12, 1944 – October 13, 2021)
John Coe, beloved husband of Maureen, died October 13th following complications from a fall. He is also survived by daughter, Jackie (Jeff) McKay; son, David (Melanie) Coe; grandchildren: Leah, Zack, Hannah, Noah, Benson, and Pearson; brother Robert (Bob) Coe; sister Edna Helwing; and extended family and friends. Predeceased by parents Wilma and John (Jack); and sister Eva Isaacson.
John was independent, determined, and adventurous in spirit from an early age. He worked diligently in a variety of positions: radio announcer, truck driver, fire fighter, pilot, Chief Flying Instructor (Calgary Flying Club), owner of the first Oil Analysis Program in Western Canada (ROAD Program), computer instructor for the physically challenged, and ordained minister with the United Church of Canada. He served at churches in Timmins and Hamilton in ON, and Happy Valley Goose Bay in Labrador, while attending Emmanuel College (Toronto), and subsequently St. Paul-Ashmont, Alix-Delburne, and Bowden-Betchton pastoral charges (Alberta). John was a self-taught early adopter of the use of computers and used his skill to develop web pages for the church and local businesses. Following his retirement in 2009, John and Maureen fondly developed their acreage east of Bowden, AB and had just moved to Red Deer.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, due to Covid. Eventide Funeral Home (Red Deer) is in charge of arrangements (see website www.eventidefuneralchapels.com for info, messages of condolence). Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to Bowden United Church, Red Deer Hospital Foundation, or charity of choice.
