Paul Henry Kent of Red Deer County passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on December 14, 2025, at the age of 77 years.
Paul was born in 1948 in Děčín, Czechoslovakia, and grew up in Tisá with his mother, father, and sister. Paul often skipped school for rock climbing and had many friends, some of whom he remained in touch with until his passing. After serving two years in the Czech Army, Paul began his career as a plumber. Soon after, he married Marie and had two daughters, Sarah and Lenna.
In his early thirties, Paul decided to move to Canada in hopes of starting a new life in Red Deer, Alberta. After the passing of his wife Marie in Czechoslovakia, Paul sent for his two daughters, Sarah and Lenna, to join him in Red Deer. He met Lill in 1987, along with her two daughters, Jodi and Abby. Paul and Lill were married in 1989. With the six of them living in a small townhouse, Paul and Lill soon realized they needed a bigger home. Paul designed and built his dream home for his family. For years to come, this home would become a cherished keeper of family traditions and fond memories for all.
Family meant everything to Paul. He treasured Christmas and valued spending time with loved ones, often dressing as Santa to hand out presents. After a hearty turkey dinner, it was common to find Paul napping in his favourite chair. He delighted in playing his guitar and singing Czech songs while sipping one of his favourite whiskeys. Paul was an avid beer connoisseur and was often seen enjoying a tasty beverage from time to time.
Paul was very proud to be a ticketed dual tradesman, working as both a plumber and a pipefitter. Over his 30 years at the Joffre plant, he built many lifelong friendships and earned the respect of his colleagues, many of whom fondly remember working with him. Paul worked in all five plants over the years but spent most of his time in PE1 and PE2 as a planner. He retired in 2014 at age 65, having completed his 30 years of service.
One of Paul’s proudest achievements was becoming a dive master. He loved the ocean and took every opportunity to dive during holidays. Paul and Lill travelled the world, always excited to explore new cultures and scenery with their closest friends. Paul and Lill cherished their friendships deeply. Halloween parties, birthdays, and their well-known New Year’s Day firepits all created plenty of happy memories.
When not travelling, Paul dedicated himself to projects on his acreage. He designed and built his dream home, meticulously planning every detail—from the house itself to every tree, outbuilding, garden, and pond—bringing his vision to life. Paul and Lill created a special, welcoming atmosphere for anyone who visited the acreage. It was a place where family and friends gathered around the firepit or in the atrium to visit, eat, talk about their next adventure, and enjoy each other’s company.
Paul lived his life to the fullest with no bad days. He was gentle, kind, and always had time to visit. We will miss his cheerful attitude and smiling face. Paul’s memory will always remain alive in our hearts, treasured through our fond memories.
Paul is lovingly remembered and cherished by his four daughters: Sarah (Peel), Jodi (Randy), Leena (Praneel), and Abby (Jordan). He was a devoted grandfather to Nikki, Mandy, Ashley, Dylan, Caylin, Sylvia, Skyler, Brooklyn, and Gabby, and a proud great-grandfather to Klara, Lenka, Emily, Orlando, and Evyena.
He was predeceased by his wife of 36 years, Lill Kent, who passed in 2023 with Paul by her side and was also predeceased by his parents, Marie Krupičková and Adolf Krupička.
The family will host a celebration of life BBQ-style in the summer for those who wish to join. More information to follow. Here, the family will lay Paul in his final resting place, next to Lill, as they both wanted.
