Patricia Joy Lambert (nee Stevenson) of Benalto, Alberta passed away peacefully at Bethany Collegeside Red Deer, surrounded by family, on November 15, 2022 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Pat was born in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan on November 6, 1935, to Howard and Vi Stevenson. Along with her twin brother Noel and younger brother Des she grew up in various rural southern Saskatchewan communities where her Mum taught school and her Dad worked the family farm. In 1951 Howard and Vi sold the family farm near Assiniboia and the family moved to Red Deer where they purchased a farm in the Waskasoo district. Pat attended Red Deer Composite High School as a
boarding student and graduated in 1953. She then worked at the Alpha condensory and at a Red Deer bank. She loved to tell the story of delivering payroll to the Penhold RCAF base, accompanied by a young man as a driver who was armed with a gun. When they arrived at the base the young man got out of the car and the gun fell down his pants and out the bottom of his pant leg!
While attending St Luke’s Anglican youth group she met William Edmund Lambert, and they married in 1957. They moved to Edmonton where Bill worked on getting his BSc in Pharmacy. Pat worked at the Edmonton Sanitorium to help put Bill thru the Pharmacy program at the University of Alberta. In 1958 Pat and Bill had their daughter Nicole. One year later Bill graduated with a BSc in Pharmacy and the family moved to Red Deer in 1959 where Bill worked at Horsley’s Drugs and daughters Jacqueline and Sherry were born. The family moved to Calgary for a short 6 months in 1966 and then arrived in Lac La Biche in 1967 where Pat lived until 1976 when the family separated.
Pat had a lifelong love of learning and was not afraid to admit she did not know it all! She took courses as varied as positive parenting, cake decorating, and barbecuing. She learned to hunt while in Lac La Biche and loved camping and being in the bush. The family had a regularly stocked freezer of a variety
of meat including moose that she and Bill had filled with their numerous hunting trips. She loved the outdoors and nature. Pat also appreciated and embraced all the various cultures thriving in LLB and particularly loved all the different foods her friends supplied the family. Pat and Bill and the family enjoyed riverboating with friends and River Rat camp excursions in spring, summer, and fall, and in winter went on many Skidoo trips. She had a wonderful sense of humour and the most beautiful smile ever (which she wore most of the time).
While in Lac La Biche she took a variety of courses at Alberta Vocational College, raised her children, belonged to the Royal Purple and worked as an assistant for the local MP, Dr. Paul Yewchuk. She left Lac La Biche in 1976 to attend Olds College to become a florist. After owning a florist shop for a short time, and working for Central Alberta Florists in Red Deer, Pat attended Red Deer College and became a Rehabilitation Practitioner working with people with disabilities at Michener Centre and Catholic Social Services. She worked for CSS as a proprietor, having people live with her in her home, until she was 78 years old in 2013.
In 1983 Pat met and fell in love with Dave Dube at a local singles dance club. Together they bought a quarter section north of Benalto and built their dream home and had a succession of dogs, cats, chickens and ducks, and vehicles! Pat explored raising Boer goats, but they were constantly escaping so she switched to cattle, which did not escape, at least not quite so often! Pat had an amazing green thumb and an artistic florist’s eye, so her yard and home were overflowing with beauty and life.
She had a compassionate heart and a fierce sense of justice for both people and animals, especially for mals, especially for the underdog in any circumstance. She loved her family, and nothing gave her greater joy than planning the underdog in any circumstance. She loved her family, and nothing gave her greater joy than planning her annual summer family picnic and having all her kids, grandkids, brothers and in her annual summer family picnic and having all her kids, grandkids, brothers and in-laws, nieces, laws, nieces, nephews, and friends come to the nephews, and friends come to the farm for some fun and food. arm for some fun and food.
