Leonard ‘Len’ William Schmode passed away on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 10:08 p.m. at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, following a brief battle with cancer. Born in Westlock, Alberta, on Sunday, February 13, 1938. He married Lorriane Eva Cowley in 1958. They were devoted parents of Jeff and Tracey. Lorriane passed away in 1997. Len then married Nancy Williams in 2006. Len worked in Optometry at the University of Alberta Hospital, then he moved into sales as a talented Jeweller at People’s Jewellers, Mappin’s and Ben Moss. He also volunteered as a prison guard at the RCMP Sylvan Lake Prison. Beyond his professional life, he was a loving husband, father and up-town uncle. Len was a member of the Red Deer Trap and Skeet Club. He loved fishing, skating and spending time with his grandchildren. In retirement, He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Eastern Water Shed Conservation group, Gaetz Memorial United Church and a Pickle Ball group. Leonard is survived by his wife, Nancy; and children, Jeff (Allison) and Tracy; his grandchildren, Ryan (Thea), Daniel, Jessie (Troy), and Gracie (Jake); his sister, Ruby; and many nieces & nephews.
