Norman Ross Link
Norm was born March 13, 1946 in Rockglen, Saskatchewan to John and Alice Link. Norm was a very active young boy roaming the hills of Rockglen, skiing & playing hockey until he was stricken with Polio in 1957 at the age of 11. He spent the next few years recovering after spending 9 months in an iron lung and several surgeries on his legs, later on in the Shriners hospital in Winnipeg.
In 1968, Norm spent a few years as a hairdresser in Peace River where he met his sweetheart Ida. Norm and Ida were married on July 11, 1970, and shortly after, moved to Grande Prairie, where 2 of their children, Crystal and Ian were born. Norm worked for the city of Grande Prairie until 1976 when they moved to Red Deer, where Tammy was born.
When they moved to Red Deer, Norm worked for the city and then turned to sales, first Voortman cookies and then Sunsweet Fundraising where he became known as the candyman, or the chocolate bar man. In 2000, Norm had another surgery which led to his early retirement.
Norm loved being outside golfing, swimming and biking until these became too difficult for him, after which he enjoyed sitting on the deck in the sun gazing at Ida’s flowers and watching the birds. He also enjoyed spending time at Extendicare and Victoria Park helping with church services there.
Norm leaves behind his wife Ida of 54 years, 3 children, Crystal (Nick) Andrushko, Ian (Stacey) Link, Tammy (Steele) Jones; 5 Grandchildren, Mikayla (Grant) Sawyer, Austin Jones, Wyatt Jones, Ethan Andrushko, Spencer Andrushko, and 3 Great grandchildren, Landon, Adalynn and Gracelynn Sawyer, his siblings, Mavis, Karen (Cal), and Dennis (Cathy).
Norms deepest desire during the last few years was to be free from his constant pain and to go home to his Lord & Savior.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 1:30 pm at Deer Park Alliance Church, Red Deer, Alberta. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MS Society of Canada in his name. Condolences to the family may be made by visiting www.eventidefuneralchapels.com
