Mrs. Mira Emelia Quesnel

Mrs. Mira Emelia Quesnel of Red Deer, Alberta passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at the age of 90 years. Mira was born in Poljane Yugoslavia (Croatia) on September 8, 1929. The family emigrated to Canada in 1936 and settled on a farm near Ellscott, Alberta. Raised on the family farm, worked on the farm but was keenly interested in education and attended school in Ellscott and Boyle, Alberta. She moved to Edmonton where she achieved her Teaching Certificate and returned to teach in Ellscott for a period of time. She married Ken Quesnel, who was in the Royal Canadian Airforce, and they moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan for a posting to RCAF Station Saskatoon. Mira and family moved several times after that including RCAF Station/CFB Penhold three times; Clinton, Ontario; Moisie, Quebec; and Puntzi Mountain, B.C. She continued teaching during this time and attended University of Alberta where she obtained her Bachelor of Education degree. Following the final posting to CFB Penhold the family settled in Red Deer in 1970. Mira taught at Andersons of Craigmyle School at CFB Penhold for 25 years before retiring in 1992. She loved teaching and the ability to help the children she taught learn. She enjoyed sports including softball while growing up and then later curling and golf, being the only one in the family to get a Hole in One (so far). Mira enjoyed gardening and could make anything grow. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grand children and great grandchild. Mira will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Michael Quesnel (Janet) of Calgary Alberta, Tim Quesnel (Monica) of Red Deer, Alberta, Pat Quesnel (Michele) of Red Deer, Alberta and her daughter, Carol Watrin of Red Deer, Alberta; her grandchildren, Candace Watrin of Edmonton, Shane Watrin of Red Deer, Christopher Quesnel of Edmonton, Michael Quesnel of Calgary, Andrew Quesnel of Calgary, Nicola Quesnel of Red Deer and her great grandson, Liam Watrin of Red Deer as well as many relatives and dear friends. Mira was predeceased by her husband, D.K. (Ken) Quesnel of Red Deer; her brother, George Krajacic of Edmonton and her sister, Zora Purych of Edmonton. Visitation and prayers will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, November 18, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend Father Mirek Kostarzewski Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Alto Reste Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta.
