It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of Mrs. Margaret ‘Marge’ Dorothy Moreau (nee Slocum), our dear aunt and sister at Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the age of 87 years. Marge was born on November 11, 1929 at Barrhead, Alberta; the fourth daughter of Gordon and Cora. Following the passing of her mother, when Marge was only ten years old, the family, Gordon and his six daughters moved to Calgary. After Gordon was injured and ended up in the hospital for an extended period, the two eldest, Dulcy and Gerri went to work as housekeepers; and the four younger girls were placed in the Woods Christian Home in Calgary. After leaving school, Marge worked at various retail jobs. Then one day, her friend, Audrey introduced her to a young man; Bill Moreau. They married on November 16, 1950. Bill was in the Royal Canadian Air Force; so they moved a great deal, finally retiring from the Air Force in Red Deer, Alberta. Although never blessed with children, despite desperately wanting them, Marge did have nineteen godchildren, who loved her dearly and will miss her greatly. Marge worked for Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Red Deer for a number of years, as a bookkeeper-secretary, and Bill was a driver examiner for the Province of Alberta, based out of Red Deer. After retiring from work, Marge volunteered delivering Meals On Wheels, and looked after her godchild, Michelle; while Michelle’s mom, Mary worked. Marge traveled to visit her aunt, Elsie near Edmonton, and they also took a trip to Expo in 1986 at Vancouver, British Columbia. Marge will be lovingly remembered by her two sisters, Gerri Derhak and Maxine Draper; as well as her special godchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Marge was predeceased by her husband, William ‘Bill’ Moreau in 1997, her mother, Cora Slocum in 1940, father, Gordon Slocum in 1977, and sisters, Rusty Ryan, Pat Russell, and Dulcy Boyce. Prayers will be held at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Deacon Claude Baril officiating.
