Mrs. Hermina Maria De Gruyter

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Hermina Maria De Gruyter(nee Jansen van Doorn)of Red Deer, Alberta, on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the age of 94 years. Hermina was born on October 5, 1922 at Heteren, the Netherlands. Hermene had a sewing school in Schoohoven where she met her husband. They married and immigrated to Winnipeg in 1951, and then moved to Calgary in 1959. She was a dressmaker for many years before she became a homemaker, taking care of a retired pastor, and thenworking for Calgary Family Service, until her retirement in 1987. Through her church work and her jobs, she gave of herself unstintingly to provide comfort to people in need that were hurting. Her last eight years were in Red Deerwhere she could be closer to her daughters. Hermina will be lovingly remembered by her five children:Cor (Marybeth) De Gruyter of Taber, Alberta; Margaret Hansma (Terry Randall) of Red Deer, Alberta, Teena (Roy) Van Boom of Leduc, Alberta, Stan (Hazel) De Gruyter of Calgary, Alberta, and Don De Gruyter of Calgary, Alberta; eighteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Hermina was predeceased by her husband of forty-four years, Jan De Gruyter, and her parents,Cornelis and Margaretha, and nine siblings. A Memorial Service will be held at River Park Church, 3818-14A Street SW, Calgary, Alberta on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike Van Boom, her grandson, officiating. An Honouring Celebration will be held at Villa Marie, 10 Carrington Drive, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
