Mrs. Doris Ellen Schmelzer (nee Closs), beloved wife of Mr. Len Schmelzer of Red Deer, passed away with her family by her side, on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at the age of 88 years. Mom had an immense love for animals and babies. Her heart was as big as all outdoors and forever young. Doris will be forever remembered and cherished in the hearts of her loving family and dear friends. Doris leaves to mourn her loving husband of sixty-nine years, Len and her children, Sharon (Dennies) Vierboom, Valerie Wiltse, Brian (Mary), Bill (Kelly), Patricia Ough and her daughter-in-law, Lisa; as well as her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be sadly missed by her brother, Carman (Doris) Closs of Medicine Hat, her very special sister-in-law, Roseanna Closs of Sylvan Lake, her half sister, Beatrice Chipchura, and her half brothers, Ernie and Ron Closs. Doris was predeceased by a son, Randy, a son-in-law, Morrie, a daughter-in-law, Cheryil, a great grandson, Peter, a great great grandson, Ryland, her parents, Norman and Edna Closs, her stepmother, Eileen, a sister, Vena, her brothers, Doug, Richard and Jim, and a special sister-in-law, Reta Schmelzer.
