It is with great sadness that the family of Mr. Joseph George ’Joe’ Holinski announces his passing on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at the age of 69 years. He passed away peacefully at his home, in Innisfail, Alberta, with his family by his side. Joe was born in Two Hills, Alberta on June 25, 1950, to George and Helen Holinski, the third of six children. He was raised on the family farm near Willingdon, Alberta. After attending NAIT to obtain his Mechanics License, he returned to Willingdon in 1977, to operate the family farm with his wife, Lynn and their three boys, Troy, Tyler and Shawn. In 1993, they moved to Innisfail, where he worked as a mechanic for Kal Tire; and later as an Ice Tech at the Innisfail Curling Club, eventually retiring to tend to his acreage and gardens. Joe made friends quickly, wherever he went. He was very active in baseball, golf, waterskiing and, of course, curling. He loved to travel, but also loved the comforts of his home, especially later in life. Joe will be missed by many friends, neighbors and extended family. His humour could make anyone smile, young or old, and he had the natural ability to entertain. To know Joe – was to love Joe. His grandchildren were the light of his life; they will all deeply miss the sleigh rides, storytelling and endless Freezies. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife of nearly forty-seven years, Lynn; his son Troy and his wife, Paula and their children, Eva and Alec; his son, Tyler and Danielle, children, Quentin, Faira, Layne and Jocelyn; and his daughter in-law, Rene and Chris and children, Liam, Myelle and Hudson Holinski, and Faith, Janai and Isaiah Wood. He will also be sadly missed by his siblings, Shirley and Steve Laschuk, Marie O’Brien, Dennis and Karren Holinski, Cecile Olynyk, and Caroline Holinski; and his nephew, Brad and his wife, Alessandra Holinski. Joe was predeceased by his Gido and Baba Danevich, his parents, George and Helen, a son Shawn, and a brother in-law, Reg Olynyk. Joe’s love of camping and horses shone through with his continued support for The Friends of the Eastern Slopes Association. If desired, Memorial Donations in Joe’s honor may be made directly to The Friends of the Eastern Slopes Association, Box 6093, Innisfail, Alberta, T4G 1S7. Arrangements in care of Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Innisfail, Alberta. 403.227.0006.
