Mr. Harold Arthur “Art” Russell passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Monday, September 4, 2017at the age of 91 years, with his family at his side. Art was born April 27, 1926 on the family homestead, near Alix, Alberta. As a young man, he worked at service stations, transported explosives to remote locations, operated cats, manufactured campers and farmed. He married his lifelong love, Evelyn Berg on February 14, 1959 and they settled in Red Deer. Uncle joked that they picked Valentine’s Day so he would never forget their anniversary. They purchased land, and commenced building the home they would live in for the rest of their lives together. They lived in a construction project for several years; as they gradually earned the money to continue building their home. Eventually, they also purchased a half section of the family homestead; where he had been born and continued farming. Uncle wore many hats over the years, but his greatest accomplishments were being a loving husband, son, brother and uncle. He had many talents including playing the guitar, banjo and harmonica, wood carving, painting, hunting, fishing and being able to fix pretty much anything that needed fixin’. He was definitely a jack of all trades. Uncle was a very accomplished carpenter; whether framing or finishing, a plumber, electrician, mechanic, welder, equipment operator, transporting explosives, and farmer. Uncle Art faced the end of his life with incredible bravery, dignity and love. He called his own shots in his final days and, not surprisingly, seemed more worried about his loved ones than himself. Art will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife, Evelyn, one brother, Don Russell (Sandra), and a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins. Art was predeceased by his parents, two sisters and three brothers. Many people helped care for Uncle these past few years, but a few deserve special recognition. Special thanks go to Bob, Glenda, Larry, Darwin, Don, Ron, Brenda and Sheila. Uncle Art and Aunt Evelyn supported many charities; so in lieu of flowers, we ask anyone wishing to make a donation to do so to the charity of their choice in Uncle’s name.Relatives and friends are invited to come and pay their respects at Parkland Funeral Home & Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Parkland Funeral Home & Crematorium,6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, September 11, 2017, at 11:00 a.m.Interment will take place at the Alto Reste Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta following the service.
