Mr. Frank Martin Vas

Mr. Frank Martin Vas, beloved husband of Mrs. Gillian Vas of Red Deer, Alberta (formerly of Wrentham, Alberta), passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at the age of 74 years. Frank was born on January 8, 1944 in Lethbridge, Alberta. He grew up in Wrentham on his family’s farm which he eventually took over. He attended the University of Alberta after he graduated and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering and Agricultural Economics in 1966, then he received his Master of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering. He lectured at the University during the winter and farmed during the spring, summer and fall. He moved to Ghana in 1971 on a contract with C.I.D.A, that is where he met his wife, Gillian, who was teaching at a High School. Frank and Gillian were married in Ghana in 1972. In 1976, Frank and Gillian returned to his farm in Canada, where they built a new home and raised five children. Frank farmed in Wrentham for over thirty years, then moved to Red Deer in 2006. During his final years, he enjoyed cooking, travelling to Banff, Alberta and spending time with their grandkids. Frank will be lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-six years, Gillian Vas; sons, Daniel (Cheryl) Vas of Edmonton, Alberta, Michael (Samantha) Vas of Coaldale, Alberta, Christopher Vas of Taber, Alberta; daughters, Bernice (Scott) Brilz of Red Deer, Alberta and Laura (Shayne) Olson of Red Deer, Alberta; four grandchildren, Kyle Brilz, Oliver, Parker and Morgan Vas. Frank will also be sadly missed by sisters, Annie (Gene) Balay of Lethbridge, Alberta and Rose (Harold) Nicholson of Lethbridge, Alberta. Frank was predeceased by parents, Joseph and Barbara and siblings, Irene, John, Joe, and Mary. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5508 – 48A Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend Father Andrew Lukaszewkz Celebrant. Cremation entrusted to the Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
