Mr. Edward ‘Ed’ William Makarenko

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Edward ‘Ed’ William Makarenko in Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, November 16, 2018 at the age of 79 years. Ed was born in Lethbridge, Alberta on September 5, 1939. He attended High School in Lethbridge and graduated from the Radio College of Canada in Montreal, Quebec. Ed had a career in Telecommunications for thirty-four years with Alberta Government Telephones and Telus Communications. He was an avid fisherman, who loved fishing and camping with family and friends. He was also an avid and enthusiastic sports car and auto racing fan. Ed raced sports cars in Alberta and Western Canada and won the 1966 “Players Prairie Sports Car Open”. Ed followed and always watched Formula 1 and NASCAR Racing on TV. Ed enjoyed playing golf, shuffle board, Skat card game and he was a bit of a pool shark! Ed will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Caroline; his sons, Michael (Tracy-Lynn) Makarenko of Okotoks, Alberta and Mitchell Makarenko of Calgary, Alberta; his grandchildren, Brett and Taylor Makarenko of Okotoks, Alberta and Dominic, Shanda, Cordell and Ashlyn Makarenko of Calgary, Alberta; and his sisters, Gladys Armour and Dianne Bulpit of Lethbridge, Alberta.
