Mr. Brian Marcus ‘Mark’ Smale passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Rimbey, Alberta on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at the age of 69 years. Mark was born on July 14, 1950 at Eckville, Alberta, the youngest son of Edgar and Martha Smale. Mark was raised and resided, all his life, on the family farm, north of Eckville. He was very involved in his communities; and enjoyed announcing the Gimlet Rodeo and Bentley Parade. Mark was a social person and entertained everyone who he came in contact with. He found great comfort in his community, cultivated friendships easily, and considered everyone a friend. Mark accepted everyone on their own terms; no one ever spoke badly about Mark. He was always willing to help out and lend a hand to his neighbors. Mark enjoyed hunting in the fall, not necessarily “tagging” animals, but the socializing of driving around looking and searching for the “right” animal, under the right conditions. During the past few years, Mark’s favorite place, or piece of heaven, was the “spring quarter”; where he would go with friends and sit around a fire, have a few beers, roast his European wieners, and have a few laughs. His storytelling was a talent, and became a real joy for all around. Mark often found himself in predicaments, and amazed folks by his skill of getting out of them. Mark leaves behind a loving family, who will miss him dearly. Mark will be lovingly remembered by his spouse, Glenda; his daughters, Angie (Jesse) and Sherry (Jon); his grandchildren, Jody-Lynn, Kaylee, Kyle and Maddison; his brother, Jack (Marion) and sister, Helen; his stepchildren, Rod (Brenda) and family, Karla (Clayton) and family and his step great grandchildren, Addison, Mason, Bayleigh, Daxton, Draeden and James; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Mark was predeceased by his daughter Tanya in 1987, his parents, Edgar and Martha, a brother, Billy and his two sisters, Doreen and Evelyn. A Private Family Interment will take place at the Gilby-Kalmu Cemetery; and a Celebration of Mark’s Life will follow when the restrictions on gathering have been lifted. In place of flowers, if desired, Memorial Donations in Mark’s honor may be made directly to a charity of the donor’s choice.
