Mona Cruickshank

The family is deeply saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Mona Cruickshank on Sunday September 9, 2018 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital at the age of 96 years.
Mona was predeceased by her husband Bob, parents Ralph and Elsie, brother Eric Steele, sisters- in- law Carol Steele, Doris Cybulski, Myrna Cruickshank and brother- in -law, Dick Swainson.
She is lovingly remembered by sons, Rod (Lil) of Drayton Valley, Gary (Liz) of Blackfalds, David (Karen) of Red Deer and daughter Glenda (Mark) Stoller of Red Deer. Grandchildren, Kalvin (Simoi), Julie (Darris), Scott (Erin), Clinton (Tobi) and 7 great grandchildren. She will also be deeply missed by her sister, Heather Swainson and brother, Irving Steele.
Mona was born November 20, 1921 in the Willowdale district east of Red Deer. Mona took her schooling in Red Deer and worked at Eaton’s prior to marrying Bob in 1946. Mona and Bob spent their life farming in the Clearview district where they raised their four children.
Mona was an avid member of the Gaetz United Church and sang in the choir for many years. She self -taught herself to play the piano by ear, and enjoyed all types of music. She loved gardening and flowers and helped judge the creative arts area at the Westerner Fair. Mona and Bob took pride participating in the Red Deer County Rural Beautification Awards, and won on multiple occasions. Mona was also a longtime member of the Women’s Institute.
She was in good health up until her passing and she found great pleasure being involved with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service for the late Mona Cruickshank will be held on Monday September 17, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Gaetz United Church (4758 Ross Street, Red Deer, AB). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mona Cruickshank’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
