It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mitchell Gunnar Vermunt-Schultz on December 17, 2023 at the age of 29 years following a long battle with schizophrenia. Mitchell was born on April 16, 1994 in Olds AB to Steven Schultz and Alexandra (Vermunt) Martin.
Mitch was an incredible intelligent young man who had many hobbies, most of which involved either tears THINGS apart or putting them back together. This included cars, motorcycles, computers, and video game consoles. He was always willing to fix his family’s computers when needed. Two of his prouder accomplishments were helping design and build the “Burrow” and the “Caravan” at Good Knights Medieval Encampments in Three Hills AB where he worked, however, his proudest accomplishment was his daughter Casey. He loved her more than anything.
Mitch will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Casey; father Steven (Anita) Schultz; mother Alexandra (Jim) Martin; sister Stevie Vermunt-Schultz and step brother Dillon Edwards. He is also survived by his great grandfather Jeff Day; grandparents Carson and Marianne Schultz and Terry and Susanne Vermunt; uncles Vincent Schultz, Clayton Schultz, Jon (Arne); aunts Chris (Kent) Clifford and Joanne Vermunt. Mitch will also be missed by his in-laws Myron and Angela Huntington; cousins; extended family and numerous friends.
Mitch was predeceased by his great grandparents Erick and Dorcas Schultz, Stephen and Reka Jansen, Ed and Edna Vermunt, Ethel Day and stepsister Sara Edwards.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at a later date on family land, details to be announced.
Memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Mental Health Association, Alberta Division.
Condolences to Mitch’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Vermunt” in the subject line.
