Mildred Ackerman
1931 – 2022
Mildred Matilda Ackerman nee (Schlechter) born August 26, 1931 at Rockford, Sask. To Anton and Sara Schlechter, being the second of three girls. Passed away in peace at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on May 20, 2022 at the age of 90 years.
Mildred acquired Grade 10 education and continued to self-educate while entering the workforce to help support her family. Mildred acquired many accomplishments throughout her lifetime, which included hairdressing, medical receptionist, housekeeping, and volunteering at community events.
She met the love of her life John M. Ackerman at a community social dance. On June 17, 1950 they were united in marriage at Medicine Hat Alberta.
They started their family of six children which involved moving between Sask. And Alberta, residing many years in Sylvan Lake and finally settling in Red Deer.
Mildred is survived by her children; Frances Bailes, Wade (Valerie) Ackerman, Jeff (Marnie) Ackerman, Jennifer (Rod) Gillies, Candace (Barry) Johnston, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren with one more on the way and 1 great great- grandchild.
She is also survived by her sisters; Pearl Milne and Beada (Ron) Reich, numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
Mildred was predeceased by her parents, her daughter Shelley Schafer, her son-in-law’s Ed Schafer, Bill Bailes, grandson Chad Bailes and brother in law Cecil Milne.
We would like to thank the numerous Nurses and Doctors that treated her at the hospital (Rimbey and Red Deer) and the caregivers at Points West Living.
Funeral is to take place at Eventide Funeral Home Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 11:00a.m , with viewing at 10:00a.m if desired.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Cancer Society, Heart and stroke Foundation, Foundation for Prader-Willi Research Canada or the SPCA.
