OBITUARY ANNOUNCEMENT

Michael Curtis Magas

June 30, 1979 – September 10, 2026

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, Michael Curtis Magas, on September 10, 2026, at the age of 47, surrounded by loved ones at the Red Deer Hospital.

Mike fought a fierce battle with cancer, and he fought with a strength and determination that never ceased to amaze those who loved him. Right until the very end, he showed us what it means to be strong, courageous, and unwilling to give up. His body may have grown tired, but his spirit remained strong.

He will be deeply missed by his wife and best friend, Maridee, and his two children, Eli and Gabrielle, who were the greatest loves of his life. He was a strong, faithful husband and father who was so proud of his family.

He took every opportunity to cheer them on and encourage greatness in others.

He will also be lovingly remembered by his parents, Ron and Marianna, and his brother Jason, as well as many extended family members and dear friends who were fortunate enough to know and love him.

Born in High River on June 30, 1979, Mike grew up with lots of extended family and cousins who gathered in love and laughter often. Mike always understood the value of learning, personal growth, and giving back to his community. Driven by a passion for lifelong education, he earned a diploma in Business, obtained his Red Seal Electrical certification, and later went on to obtain his master’s as an Electrician. He ultimately found his true professional calling at Stantec Consulting, an Engineering firm, where he served as the lead of the Instrumentation, Electrical & Controls team as a Certified Engineering Technologist, delivering work within Alberta and beyond. Mike’s passion for the electrical industry and mentorship extended beyond his career, as he proudly served on the Technology and Trades Advisory Board at Red Deer Polytechnic, helping to guide and inspire future generations of skilled tradespeople and professionals.

Mike had many passions and hobbies such as riding his motorcycle, 3D printing, visiting with those he loved, and learning about others. Some of his best memories were of family trips to Disney where he not only delighted in the magic that his family found but also embraced all those magical moments for himself.  He loved adventures and he loved the quiet moments spent with those he loved.

Above all else, Mike was a man who loved his family deeply. He was a committed husband, father, son, brother and friend, and the love he gave will continue to shape the lives of those he leaves behind. His children will carry his lessons, his laughter, his stories, and his love with them for the rest of their lives.

Although we wish with everything in us that he could have stayed, we find comfort in knowing that he fought right to the end, and that he was surrounded by love. We hold close to the promise that “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 10:13), and we trust that he is now resting in the arms of his Heavenly Father.

His family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the hospital, doctors, nurses, oncology and palliative care teams, colleagues, family, and friends for the care, compassion, and kindness shown to Mike and our family throughout this past year. We will never forget the people who walked alongside us during this journey.

Mike’s life was far too short, but it was deeply loved. His absence will leave an immeasurable hole in the hearts of those who knew him, but so too will his love remain with us — in the stories we tell, the memories we share, and in the lives of the people he loved most.

He fought so hard. He loved so deeply. And he gave us more than we could ever put into words.

A celebration of life will be held on September 18, 2026, at 1:00pm, at the Sylvan Lake Alliance Community Church.  A lunch will follow the service in church fellowship hall.  If you cannot attend the service, it will be livestreamed on YouTube through the Sylvan Lake Alliance Community Church link.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Red Deer Regional Hospital or the Central Alberta Cancer Clinic.
